Question: What is happening in the AI world right now?

SOL ANSWERS

Very simply, as of late October 2026, AI is going through a change that is bigger than “new chatbot gets smarter.” The easiest way I can explain it is this:

1. AI is moving from talking to doing

A few years ago:

You → AI → answer

Now:

You → AI → AI searches → opens programs → uses tools → writes files → checks results → talks to other systems → completes a job

That is why everyone is obsessed with agents.

The newest frontier models are increasingly built around computer use, coding, browsing and long multi-step work rather than only conversation.

This is probably the biggest change happening.

2. We are building an AI operating system around the brain

The model itself — the “brain” — is only one part now.

Around it we are building:

memory

tools

skills

permissions

sandboxes

payments

other agents

And companies are beginning to agree on common ways these pieces should connect.

In very simple English:

We spent years building smarter AI brains. Now everybody is building the body and nervous system around the brain.

3. AI agents are beginning to get real power

And this is where things become both exciting and slightly scary.

An agent can increasingly have:

a browser

email

files

computer access

code execution

APIs

memory

access to other agents

and now even money

Once an AI can spend money, we cannot only ask: “Is the AI intelligent?” We must also ask: “What is it allowed to do?”

That is why security is shifting toward permissions and boundaries.

An extremely intelligent model inside a tightly controlled environment may be safe. A weaker model with access to your bank account, computer, passwords and unlimited tools could cause much more trouble.

4. Scientists are starting to use AI differently too

This is another huge shift.

At first AI helped scientists: “Read this paper.” “Predict this protein.” “Analyze this dataset.”

Now the idea is increasingly: “Help run the research process.”

So AI science is slowly moving from: AI as calculator → AI as research collaborator → and eventually perhaps AI as partly autonomous researcher.

We are not fully there yet. But that is clearly the direction.

5. Robots are finally joining the same story

This is why robotics suddenly feels much more important than it did two years ago.

Language models became good at understanding the world. Vision models became good at seeing it. Agents became better at planning.

Now researchers are trying to connect all of that to: arms + legs + cameras + motors.

This is why robotics is worth watching.

Software AI can make mistakes inside a computer. A robot can make mistakes in your kitchen. 😅

That changes the safety problem completely.

6. Creative AI is becoming less about “generate something” and more about working with it

This is especially relevant to creators.

The first generation was: “Make me an image.” Then: “Make me a video.”

Now the direction is: “Make it — and let me actually edit and control it.”

That tells us something important about where creative AI is going.

Generation is becoming cheap.

The valuable part becomes: control, consistency, editing, character identity, storytelling and production workflow.

Making one beautiful image will become easier for everyone. Creating a consistent character, maintaining its identity, building a world around it and using it across music, video, stories and animation remains much harder.

7. Governments have realized this is going to affect jobs

This conversation has changed dramatically.

Two years ago politicians talked mostly about: “Will AI take jobs?”

Now governments are beginning to prepare for actual workplace transition.

I think we are entering the period where the question changes from: “Will AI affect employment?” to: “Which jobs change first, how quickly, and what do we do with people whose work changes?”

8. And we still do not fully understand agent behaviour

This is why new agent-behaviour research is so interesting.

We are building systems that can act, but their behaviour is affected by: their instructions + environment + incentives + tools + other agents + permissions.

So AI safety is becoming less like: “Make a perfectly obedient brain.”

And more like: “Build a safe system around a powerful brain.”

That is a much more realistic problem.

So where are we really?

2023–24: “Wow, AI can talk.”

2024–25: “Wow, AI can reason, see, code and create.”

2025–26: “Wait… AI can actually perform tasks.”

Now: “How do we safely give it tools, memory, money, computers, other agents and eventually bodies?”

That is basically the entire AI story right now.

And underneath all the model launches — OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, Kimi, Qwen and everyone else — I think that is the real transition.

We are moving from the age of the AI model into the age of the AI system.

That is why stories about agent behaviour, payments, skills, sandboxes, robotics, scientific agents, memory, MCP and multi-agent systems all seem connected.

They look like separate news. They are actually pieces of the same thing.
